Home Security That Hits Home

What price would you pay for home security? It’s a lot cheaper than one might have thought it would be to protect your home. The one problem I have with the security industry is that it portrays home security as an expensive endeavor, reserved for the privileged home owners only. The true fact of the matter is that home security is as affordable as your monthly cell phone bill, or cable bill. In fact, home security is a cost effective alternative to almost any other way to protect your home. Can you imagine hiring security guards to stand watch outside your house? That wouldn’t be cheap. Nor would building your own custom system, unless you held a degree in electrical engineering, and could rip through a Radio Shack like it was his or her job. Most people can get a home security system installed for two hundred dollars or less.

The home security system installation cost is based on the number of keypads, and access points installed in the home. While homes will vary in terms of needs, the average installation is two access points, and two keypads installed. Most home security companies will offer a discount for the second keypad installed, and thus installation costs are kept to a minimum.

The installation is similar to a visit from the cable man in terms of what happens once the installer arrives. Essentially home security systems are simply radio transmission units that are grounded in the house so they can’t be tampered with. This means they have separate lines, like a coaxial cable, but smaller, that will be run throughout the house. Combine that with a few holes to drill in the wall, and some battery backup for the power source of the system, and that’s about it.

Most security companies offer low cost monthly payments in order to provide the best service to the most amounts of people possible. While monthly costs will vary with individual needs, they can be as low as $10 per month, and the average cost seems to be around $25 per month for your basic system.

The largest cost is at installation, and after this occurs the cost of up keep is next to nothing. Don’t worry about the repair bills, because most security systems are fairly easy to upkeep. Simply utilize the services on a regular basis, and you should have no problem getting your value out of the company.
